A trial operation ceremony for the Xichong Dark Sky Observatory was recently conducted at the second tourist center in Nan’ao Beach by the Nan’ao Subdistrict Office of Dapeng New District and the Shenzhen Astronomical Observatory, marking the launch of another astronomical project in Nan’ao Xichong International Dark Sky Community.
“Located in the southern part of the Dapeng Peninsula, Xichong is a scenic spot with rich natural and astronomical resources,” said Duan Xiaowei, head of the Nan’ao Subdistrict Office. “In 2023, it was certified as the first International Dark Sky Community in China, with its starry sky being highly appreciated nationwide.”
“The establishment and operation of the astronomical observatory serve to blend nature into regional educational sources, enhancing the travel experiences for tourists and residents. We firmly believe that the Xichong Dark Sky Observatory will become an attractive destination for visitors. Moreover, we anticipate increased investments from exceptional businesses,” he added.
During the event, Xichong Community Joint Stock Co. and Shenzhen Dark Night Starry Sky Astronomy Science and Technology Innovation Co. Ltd. inked a letter of intent, and reached collaboration in accelerating facilities construction and deepening economic cooperation.
It is said that the astronomical observatory will provide visitors with diversified knowledge about dark sky as well as a stellar exhibition experience. Since the observatory was established with the assistance of the Xichong Scenic Attraction Tourist Service Center, it will also offer tourists comprehensive services, encompassing tourist guidance and business operations.
